The 5th Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge David Lass BE RETAINED.

Judge Lass was appointed to the Summit County Court bench in 1986. Judge Lass currently hears criminal misdemeanor cases, small claims court, traffic matters and civil matters. He sometimes substitutes as an acting District Court judge. Judge Lass is a 90% time judge. He also serves as a Municipal Court judge for the Town of Frisco, Colorado.

Judge Lass attends the National Judicial College during his vacations. He is attaining his Master’s Degree in Judicial Studies from the University of Nevada, the site of the Judicial College. Judge Lass participates in community activities, including those with an emphasis on the problems of domestic violence. Judge Lass also assists in the training of new Judges, and is currently developing innovative approaches to organizing reference files on current cases.

Written evaluations completed by courthouse personnel, jurors, prosecutors, defense attorneys and litigants received by this commission gave Judge Lass uniformly high marks. Some respondents praised Judge Lass as being a model judge. Judge Lass was specifically praised for his judicious demeanor, his integrity, his impartiality, his knowledge and understanding of the law and his docket management skills. It is the opinion of the Judicial Performance Commission for the 5th Judicial District that Judge Lass does an outstanding job and should be commended as well as retained.
