Honorable David D. Parrish

Retention year: 1990
Recommendation: Retain

Judicial Performance Commission’s recommendation: Should Be Retained.

Judge Parrish was admitted to practice law in Colorado in 1969. He was in private practice from 1969 until his appointment as a county judge in 1978. Parrish served as a county judge for two years and then was appointed a district judge in 1981. He has served continuously in that position since then. Parrish presides over a general district court caseload including domestic relations, criminal, civil and juvenile cases.

Among trial attorneys, Parrish scored high in many important categories, including equal treatment regardless of race, displays sense of justice, and complies with rules of evidence of trial matters.

Parrish received exceptionally high evaluations from jurors and litigants, with both groups voting unanimously to retain him. Evaluations by probation and social services people were somewhat lower. Only 20% of staff people polled voted to retain, with several stating Parrish tended to keep matters under advisement with ruling for too long.

The overall responses for Parrish were favorable from all the categories surveyed. The general feeling among the attorneys appears to be that Parrish has matured substantially over the past several years and is doing a very acceptable job as a district judge.
