The Seventh Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance, by unanimous vote, recommends Judge Diana Barber BE RETAINED.

Judge Barber graduated from Northern Illinois University Law School.  She spent sixteen years in private practice in Illinois before moving to Colorado, where she worked for two years for Colorado Legal Services in Durango.  Judge Barber was appointed to the Montrose County Court bench in 2006.  Aside from her work on the bench, she enjoys reading, sewing and raising horses.

Judge Barber’s workload consists of fifty percent (50%) civil and fifty percent (50%) criminal.  Judge Barber’s position is defined by the state as a part-time (20% FTE).

The Commission observed Judge Barber in the courtroom, reviewed her decisions, conducted a personal interview and reviewed her written self-evaluation.  The Commission found Judge Barber to be in control in the courtroom.  Judge Barber manages her docket in an efficient manner, makes rulings based on the merits of the case at hand and applies the law fairly and consistently.

One-hundred percent (100%) of the attorneys responding to the evaluation survey recommended that Judge Barber be retained in office.  Of the non-attorneys, seventy-five (75%) recommended retention, and twenty-five (25%) had no opinion.
