Honorable Anne M. Ollada

Retention year: 2012
Recommendation: Retain

The Eighteenth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance unanimously recommends that Judge Anne M. Ollada BE RETAINED.

Judge Ollada's undergraduate work was at the University of California at Santa Barbara where she majored in Chinese studies.  She then went to the California Western School of Law in San Diego, California in 1992, where she completed her law degree.  She practiced as a civil attorney in private practice prior to becoming a magistrate.  Judge Ollada was appointed to the Arapahoe County Court as a magistrate in 1999 and as an Arapahoe County Court Judge in September 2006.  She presently presides over a 15% criminal and 80% misdemeanor docket.

A personal interview of Judge Ollada was conducted by the Commission, and members of the Commission observed Judge Ollada in the courtroom.  The Commission also reviewed written evaluations of Judge Ollada from attorneys and non-attorneys, as well as a written self-evaluation and several of her written decisions.  Judge Ollada receives numerous high marks for her fairness, thoroughness, and well thought out decisions.  Her demeanor on the bench is both professional and personable.  When asked her philosophy, Judge Ollada stated: “Don’t forget these are real people, with real lives.  Show compassion but give appropriate punishment and acknowledge the counsel, defendants, and victims.”  She has been found to be fair, balanced, and will apply the law even when she may not personally agree with the end result.  She avails herself of any judicial educational opportunities that keep her informed of cutting edge law and procedure, including domestic violence.  The Commission finds that Judge Ollada is an excellent judge, who is serving honorably, diligently, and is a credit to the Eighteenth Judicial District.

Of all attorneys surveyed about retention, 76% recommended to retain, 13% not to retain, and 11% were undecided or didn’t have enough information to make recommendation.  Of those expressing an opinion to retain or not to retain, 85% recommend to retain and 15% not to retain.  Of all non-attorneys surveyed, 89% recommended to retain, 4% not to retain, and 7% were undecided or didn’t have enough information to make a recommendation.  Of those expressing an opinion to retain or not to retain, 95% recommended to retain and 5% not to retain.  The Commission finds that Judge Ollada is a good judge and should be retained.
